Ronaldo hilariously imitates iconic Messi line “¿Qué mirás bobo?”

Cristiano Ronaldo has gone viral after hilariously pinching one of his great rival Lionel Messi’s famous phrases during a clip on his new YouTube channel.

Ronaldo, launched his YouTube channel last month, and broke a world record by reaching 15million subscribers within the first 24 hours.

He has already sat down for an interview with his former Manchester United team-mate Rio Ferdinand, while he has also uploaded clips of himself alongside his long-term partner Georgina Rodriguez.

In a recent upload with Rodriguez, the pair were seen giggling before Ronaldo uttered the line ‘Que Miras bobo’, which translates to ‘what are you looking at, fool?’

And there was a reason behind it, as those are the exact same words that Messi used back in 2022 following Argentina’s World Cup quarter-final victory over the Netherlands.

The ill-tempered game saw 17 yellow cards handed out by referee Antonio Mateu Lahoz, with players from each team confronting one another on multiple occasions.

Argentina had looked to be cruising to victory when they led 2-0 heading into the closing stages, but ex-Manchester United striker Wout Weghorst came off the bench to score twice and force extra time.

The South American nation eventually prevailed on penalties thanks to the heroics of Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez, but the controversy continued after the game.

During a post-match interview, Messi caught the eye of Weghorst and after believing the forward had been provoking him during the game he shouted ‘what are you looking at, fool?’

The memorable moment instantly went viral, with many shocked to see the usually mild-mannered Messi losing his temper with an opponent.

Weghorst tried to play down the spat afterwards, insisting he had only wanted to show Messi ‘respect’ after a hard-fought contest.

‘I fought against Messi and there were a few moments between us,’ Weghorst told Dutch outlet De Telegraaf.

‘I think he didn’t like it and that it surprised him. But I have a lot of respect for him. He is among the greatest of all time.

‘I wanted to show my respect for Messi after the game, but he didn’t want it.

‘I think he was still angry with me. Oh well, I see it as a great compliment that he knows my name now. Then at least I did something right.’

Ronaldo has now copied Messi’s iconic line, and he appears to still have the desire to emulate him on the pitch by winning the World Cup before he hangs up his boots.

Messi led Argentina to glory two years ago after they scraped past the Netherlands, and Ronaldo seems to have his sights set on playing at a sixth World Cup in 2026.

He will be 41 by the time the tournament gets underway in the USA, Mexico and Canada, but has hinted that he still feels he will be playing at the highest level for years to come.

Addressing his retirement plans earlier this week, the Portuguese superstar told reporters: ‘When the time comes, I’ll move on,’ Ronaldo said. ‘It won’t be a difficult decision to make.

‘If I feel like I’m no longer contributing anything, I’ll be the first to leave.’

His Excellence wishing everybody happy jumah

🕋 SALAH REMINDER 🕋
Mu‘aadh ibn Jabal رضي الله عنه Narrated that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ took him by the hand and said:
“O Mu‘aadh, by Allah verily I love you, by Allah verily I love you.” Then he said: “I urge you, O Mu‘aadh, never to stop saying at the end of every prayer: Allahumma a‘inni ‘ala dhikrika wa shukrika wa husni ‘ibaadatika (O Allah, help me to remember You, give thank to You and worship You properly).”
[رواه أبو داود (1522)]
Sheikh Ibn Baz رحمه الله تعالى commented:
يعني قبل أن يسلم، وإن دعا بعد السلام وبعد الذكر فلا بأس، لكن قبل السلام أفضل.
It means “the final part of the prayer before the greeting (salutation), and if recited after the greeting there is no harm, but reciting it before the greeting is preferable.”

Spanish Government wade into World Cup kiss incident during World Cup win

Spain‘s Minister for Culture and Sports, Miquel Iceta, has come out publicly to criticise Royal Spanish Football Federation President Luis Rubiales, after he kissed player Jenni Hermoso on the lips.

As Rubiales was congratulating Hermoso on the podium after winning Spain’s first ever women’s World Cup, he grabbed her head and kissed her on the lips.

After the incident, Hermoso was seen streaming celebrations and claiming that she didn’t like it. Meanwhile Rubiales said he would pay no attention to ‘the idiocy’ and ‘idiots’, calling it a show of affection without much importance.

Nevertheless, the incident has blown up and made international headlines. Hermoso herself tried to calm matters by saying that people shouldn’t think twice about it, and that the pair have an excellent relationship.

However Iceta was not willing to let it slide, and grouped himself in with what Rubiales regards as idiots.

“The first thing he has to do is give explanations and make excuses,” Iceta told RNE, as per Diario AS.

“It is the logical and reasonable thing to expect because it is really true that the moment that was lived in Sydney was a very special moment, a moment of many emotions, but precisely those of us who have public responsibilities must be extremely careful, because we are giving a message to the society, and that message is equality of rights, it is respect, and therefore we should avoid any circumstance that can be interpreted that this is a prevalent thing, a person who is in charge cannot force a kiss, it cannot be.”

Iceta continued on to say that Rubiales in the cold light of day must realise the error of his ways.

“As such, from that point of view, what I would like is to hear the president’s explanations and also for him to apologise, because probably when he sees the images he will realise something which perhaps at the time he did not have in mind.”

Iceta was conscious that it was “a sporting event” but also “a moment of equality, rights and respect for women.”

“We all have to be especially careful in our attitudes and our actions. I think it’s unacceptable to kiss a player on the lips to congratulate her and, as I’ve seen it, because I didn’t see it live, but I saw it later on the social networks, it has to be said.”

Iceta is not the only one to voice his discontent. Minister for Equality Irene Montero tweeted out that it was a form of sexual violence.

Happy Jummah Mubarak

May Allah (S.W.T) distance you from shame and failure,
May HE destroy every evil plan against you and your loved ones,
May HE protect you from known and unknown enemies.
May Allah (S.W.T) support you and your family with Love, Kindness, Mercy, Blessings and Forgiveness,
May you continue to enjoy Allah’s Rahmah, Ni’imah and protection till yaumul qiyamaah,
Ameen,

Greenwood has all attempted rape and assault charges DROPPED

Man United star Mason Greenwood has been cleared of attempted rape, one count of controlling and coercive behaviour and one count of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

He was charged in October 2022 but this afternoon a decision was made to discontinue prosecution in accordance with the Code for Crown Prosecutors.

A CPS spokesperson said: ‘We have a duty to keep cases under continuous review.

‘In this case a combination of the withdrawal of key witnesses and new material that came to light meant there was no longer a realistic prospect of conviction. In these circumstances, we are under a duty to stop the case.

‘We have explained our decision to all parties.

‘We would always encourage any potential victims to come forward and report to police and we will prosecute wherever our legal test is met.’

Chief Superintendent Michaela Kerr, GMP’s Head of Public Protection, said: ‘Given the significant media coverage of this case, it is only fair that we share the news that the 21-year-old man, who had been arrested and charged in connection with an investigation opened in January 2022, no longer faces criminal proceedings in relation to this.

‘The investigation team has remained in regular contact with the legal team, providing any updates of note, and so understand the rationale for the discontinuation of proceedings at this stage, and that this decision has not been taken lightly.

‘Despite the media and public’s interest in this case, we have decided not to comment on it in any further detail.

‘I would, however, like to use this opportunity to reiterate GMP’s commitment to investigating allegations of violence against women and girls and supporting those affected, regardless of their circumstances, throughout what can be a hard and upsetting time for them. An ever increasing number of officers are receiving specialist training and the force is more consistently utilising tools, available via the criminal justice system, to keep people safe and care for victims.

‘If you feel you are or might be a victim, please don’t let this case put you off asking for help.’

Aguero nets on his return in the Kings League before copying Messi’s celebration

Sergio Aguero scored on his return to football, before copying his close friend Lionel Messi’s celebration to mark his goal, having retired from football in 2021 following a cardiac arrhythmia diagnosis.
The ex-Argentina international got on the scoresheet for his own Kings League franchise KuniSports in their penalty shoot-out defeat to Porcinos FC, before making for the corner flag and replicating Messi’s hands-behind-the-ears pose.
It was revealed Aguero would be making a one-off return to football this month after receiving an all-clear for Ecuador’s Barcelona SC, but appeared to bring himself up to speed in the Kings League, which sent social media into a meltdown as fans tried to work out who the ‘masked winger’ was.
With his side 2-1 down to Porcinos – helmed by one of Spain’s biggest Twitch streamers Ibai Llanos – Aguero grabbed the equaliser.

Ronaldo pays tribute to ‘eternal king’ Pele after Brazilian legend tragic death

Cristiano has honoured the death of Pele with a heartfelt Instagram post in tribute to the tragic passing of football’s legendary icon.

The Portuguese forward sent his ‘condolences’ to the former Brazilian striker’s family, before adding that he ‘reciprocated’ all the love that Pele had shown him throughout his career.

Pele passed away after a battle with colon cancer at the age of 82, with numerous players both past and present joining his daughter Kely Nascimento in sending their own emotional messages after the tragic news on Thursday, December 29.

‘My deep condolences to all of Brazil, and in particular to the family of Edson Arantes do Nascimento,’ the five-time Ballon d’Or winner wrote on Instagram.

‘A mere “goodbye” to the eternal King Pelé will never be enough to express the pain that the entire football world is currently embracing. An inspiration to so many millions, a reference yesterday, today and forever.

‘The love you always showed me was reciprocated in every moment we shared even from distance. He will never be forgotten and his memory will live forever in each and every one of us football lovers.

‘Rest in peace King Pelé.’

Pele and Ronaldo shared an amicable relationship, with the former often sending the latter words of support throughout his career.

Earlier in 2022, the Brazil icon told Ronaldo he was looking forward to meeting with him in a congratulatory message after the 37-year-old received a special award from FIFA for breaking the international goalscoring record.

‘I’m looking forward to meeting you in person to give you my hug,’ he said.

‘I recorded this message with great care. See you soon.’

The three-time World Cup winner notched 77 goals in 92 appearances for his country, with his record only recently being matched by current talisman Neymar at the Qatar World Cup.

Several of the games most prominent figures – both past and present – have joined Pele’s daughter in paying tribute to the iconic football star.

Gary Lineker has also paid tribute to a player who many feel was the greatest of all time.

How Mo Salah Became the New King of Football

The Lord Mayor of Liverpool is wearing a nervous smile and a gold ceremonial chain the size of a saucer, the kind worn to greet royalty or a foreign dignitary—which feels appropriate, because it’s not every day you get a visit from the Egyptian king. It’s a cloudless fall day in the city, and star Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has come to the town hall to film an interview with an Egyptian TV channel. The producers wanted somewhere aspirational, opulent, to film their national icon, and honestly they couldn’t have picked better. The building is ostentatiously beautiful, late Georgian, all Corinthian columns and gold-filigree cornicing and crystal ballroom chandeliers that the Lord Mayor, a tiny woman named Mary, informs me each weighs a ton. The staff buzzes around nervously, chattering in low voices while the cameras roll in the next room. Salah! Even Mary, an Everton fan—and thus a supporter of Liverpool’s most hated rivals—is excited. “I’m not a bitter Blue,” she whispers, because all rivalries aside, who doesn’t love Mohamed Salah?

In Egypt, where his life story is taught in schools, his nickname is the Happiness Maker. This is as much for his feats on the field—where he has in five seasons led a resurgent Liverpool to Premier League and Champions League titles, breaking umpteen records on the way—as his feats off it. He’s got that million-lumen smile; the Afro-beard combo; the whole wholesome, hardworking, family-man image. In Nagrig, the village in the Nile Delta north of Cairo where Salah grew up, his generosity is legendary: He has paid to build a school, a water-treatment plant, and an ambulance station there, and every month his foundation provides food and money to the destitute.

Largest banks in Nigeria by total assets as of H1 2022

Access Bank, Zenith, and FBN Holdings maintained the top spot as the largest banks in Nigeria based on the value of their total assets as of the first half of 2022. Data compiled by Nairalytics, the research arm of Nairametrics shows.

The thirteen commercial banks listed on the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) with major operations in the country saw their aggregate asset value increase by 8.1% in the first six months of the year to stand at N63.59 trillion as of June 2022 from N58.83 trillion recorded as of the beginning of the year.

The top five banks were the major tier-1 financial institutions typically referred to as the FUGAZ, which is an acronym used to represent First Bank, UBA, GTCO, Access, and Zenith Bank. The top five banks accounted for 80.5% of the total asset of the industry. It is worth noting that Ecobank Transnational Incorporated was not included in the compilation because most of its operations are outside Nigeria.

A further breakdown of the data shows that the increase in the total assets of the banks was largely attributed to rises in customer loans. Although Union Bank recorded a decline in its total assets in the period under review, Stanbic IBTC recorded the highest increase with a 14.8% increase to stand at N3.15 trillion from N2.74 trillion as of the beginning of the year.

The top five banks in Nigeria by total assets are:

#3: FBN Holdings – N9.53 trillion
FBN Holdings posted a total asset valuation of N9.53 trillion as of June 2022, representing a 6.6% increase from N8.93 trillion recorded six months earlier. FBN Holdings, which is the parent company for First Bank accounted for 15% of the total aggregate assets for the thirteen banks.

FBN’s asset growth can be attributed to increasing in its cash and balances, loan books, and investment securities. Its cash and balances with Central Bank rose from N1.59 trillion to N1.64 trillion in the six months period.
Also, its loans and advances to customers improved from N2.88 trillion as of December 2021 to stand at N3.38 trillion by the end of June 2022. It is worth adding that its investment securities rose to N2.16 trillion from N1.96 trillion.
On the flip side, its property and equipment declined marginally to N113.79 billion from N115.9 billion recorded as of December 2021.
#2: Zenith Bank – N10.12 trillion
Zenith Bank reported a total asset value of N10.12 trillion as of June 2022, an increase of 7.1% from N9.45 trillion recorded as of December 31st, 2022. Zenith Bank accounted for 15.9% of the total assets of the banks listed on the Exchange.

The increase in its total assets was as a result of improvement in its cash and balance with the Central Bank, treasury bills, loans to customers as well as investment securities.
The bank, which is also the most capitalized bank in the Nigerian equities market, saw its loan books increase to N3.49 trillion as of June 2022 from N3.36 trillion, while investment securities stood at N1.48 trillion.
In the same vein, property and equipment improved, albeit only marginally from N200 billion to N202.3 billion. Investment securities improved from N1.3 trillion recorded as of the beginning of the year to N1.48 trillion by the end of June 2022.

Access Holdings Plc tops the list with a total asset value of N13.19 trillion as of June 2022, representing an increase of 12.5% compared to N11.73 trillion recorded as of the beginning of the year.

The financial institution, which is a newly restructured holding company accounted for 20.8% of the total assets of the thirteen banks under consideration. The uptick in the total asset value of the bank can be attributed to improvements in some of the asset components, especially loans and advances.
Specifically, loans and advances to customers rose to N4.62 trillion as of the period under consideration from N4.16 trillion recorded as of the beginning of the year. This means that Access Bank gave out an additional N458.2 billion in loans to its customers in the first six months of the year.
Also, investment securities rose by N493.6 billion to stand at N2.76 trillion. The value of its property and equipment increased to N261.8 billion from N247.7 billion, having spent N36.7 billion on the acquisition of property and equipment in the same period.
Meanwhile, Access Bank has entered into a binding agreement with Centum Investment Company Plc to acquire its entire 83.4% equity stake held by Centum in Sidian Bank Limited.
Also, the holding company received regulatory approval in August 2022 to acquire a majority equity stake in First Guarantee Pension Limited, in a bid to evolve into a financial service holding company.
